Supporting Local Communities for National Food Bank Day 2026
Last week, colleagues from Academia The Technology Group and Smartdesc joined forces to help local communities facing financial hardship and food insecurity on National Food Bank Day on 4th September.
Food banks are still a lifeline for many people in the UK who are struggling. Around 6.6 million children live in households that have relied on food banks and 72% of people referred to them do not have enough income to cover basic living costs. The need for support is still great.
Demand for food bank services is high across the country, so community efforts like this matter more than ever.
Every Donation Makes a Difference
To support people in our area, our Fundraising Committee set up a company-wide Food Drive. We encouraged everyone to donate essential food and household items to local food banks and community groups.
Together, we collected over 150 items and delivered them to three local food banks and community groups. The number is worth celebrating, but what matters most is the difference these donations make.
Supporting Communities Close to Home
This year, we focused on keeping our support local. We made sure donations went straight to groups helping people in the communities near our offices.

Reading: ReadiFood
London: City Hive
These groups give vital help to people and families facing tough times. We are proud to support them and help them keep doing their important work.
